Privacy Policy

Overview

youfibrereferral.uk is committed to being straightforward about the data it collects — or more accurately, the data it does not collect. This site is a simple, static informational website. There is no registration, no login, no comment system, and no forms that collect personal information (except the contact page, which provides an email address for direct contact).

This policy sets out what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights under UK data protection law.

What data we collect

This site does not actively collect personal data. There are no sign-up forms, account systems, or data capture tools on this site.

The only data processing that occurs is described in the following sections.

Server logs

When you visit any website, your browser sends standard information to the web server. This typically includes:

  • Your IP address
  • The page you requested
  • The date and time of the request
  • Your browser type and version
  • Your operating system
  • The referring URL (if you arrived via a link from another site)

This information is logged automatically by the web hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages or Netlify, depending on the current deployment). These logs are used for the purposes of security, debugging, and performance monitoring. They are not used to identify individual visitors, are not sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes, and are retained only as long as required for these operational purposes.

For more information about how Cloudflare or Netlify handle server-level data, please refer to their respective privacy policies.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. GA4 collects information about how visitors use this site, including:

  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • How you arrived at the site (e.g. search engine, direct, referral)
  • Approximate geographic location (country/region level, derived from IP address)
  • Device type, browser, and operating system

This information is used solely to understand how the site is used and to improve its content. It is not used to identify individual visitors, and is not combined with any other personal data. Data is processed by Google LLC in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. The legal basis for this processing is legitimate interests (understanding site usage to improve a free public information resource).

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Cookies

This site does not set advertising cookies or third-party cookies for marketing purposes.

Analytics cookies — Google Analytics sets the following cookies:

  • _ga — distinguishes unique users; retained for 2 years
  • _ga_FW42T5GSXD — maintains session state; retained for 2 years

These are analytics/performance cookies. They are not used for advertising or to track you across other websites.

Functional browser storage — a single localStorage item, disclaimer-dismissed, is set if you choose to dismiss the disclaimer banner at the top of the page. This stores a simple flag ("1") to prevent the banner from reappearing on subsequent visits. It does not identify you, does not leave the browser, and is not transmitted to any server.

This use of localStorage does not constitute a "cookie" under the UK PECR, as it is a functional preference and no personal data is involved.

Third-party links

This site contains links to external websites, principally youfibre.com. When you follow a link to an external site, that site's own privacy policy applies. This site is not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites.

Your rights under UK GDPR

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), you have the following rights in relation to any personal data held about you:

  • Right of access — to obtain a copy of any personal data held about you.
  • Right to rectification — to have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Right to erasure — to have data deleted in certain circumstances.
  • Right to object — to object to certain types of processing.
  • Right to data portability — to receive data in a portable format where applicable.

Given that this site does not actively collect personal data, most of these rights are unlikely to be relevant in practice. However, if you have a question or request regarding data, please use the contact details below.

Data controller

The data controller for this website is the site owner, contactable via the contact page. As this is a personal site run by an individual, the site owner is not required to register with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) solely on the basis of this website's operations, but is committed to complying with UK GDPR principles in relation to any data that is processed.

Contact for privacy queries

If you have a question about this privacy policy or wish to exercise any of your data rights, please contact the site owner via the Contact page.

You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe your data rights have not been respected: ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time — for example, if analytics or other services are added to the site. The date at the top of the page reflects when the policy was last revised. If significant changes are made, we will update the date accordingly.
